/offtopic, curiousity/ how big is the difference between

Forums:

how big is the difference between a matrix (not LUT) profile built using a sufficiently accurate shot of a measured target, with flatfield shot applied __vs__ a matrix profile that some people can build using the CFA transmission curves obtained with monochromator, etc (or when camera manufacturer like Kodak publish such curves)... I bet Iliah Borg did both ways for some cameras and compared, it is interesting to hear what was the outcome... how noticeable were the gains, etc

Profile Edition Question and General Question

Forums:

1) Does the Profile Edition permit custom white balance setting and export?
Added: I should clarify. Does the custom white balance require the use of a photo of a Color Checker Passport patch or similar tool? Or can a custom white balance area be selected from any photo?

2) What colour or colour space am I seeing when I look at the Raw Composite version of a photograph for which sRGB was set in-camera? (I'm not sure if I am properly asking my question here!)

Thank you.

quality of ColorMunki measurements

Forums:

I can use a friend's ColorMunki spectrophotometer, but I was wondering if it is decent enough to measure a target, so for example, I made a fresh .cie today for QP 202 and compared vs .cie supplied with makeinputicc = http://postimg.org/gallery/2lny8xm86/

so - shall I try procure something better elsewhere and redo all my measurements or those results look normal (nothing out of the ordinary) ?

Crash

Forums:

I got an invalid memory write when I went into Preferences and checked Masked Pixels and then Apply.
I saved a minidump w/ Stack, and the file is 412 megabytes. If I send that to you then you can view the crash in the Windows debugger (I suppose you are using Visual Studio 2010).

For completeness, note that I'm using RawDigger.exe 1.1.1.382, signed on October 13, size 1,670,936 bytes.

OT? Is Canon's HTP (highlight tone priority) just digital or really changes RAW values?

Forums:

My understanding is that Canon's HTP (highlight tone priority) really does change RAW values, and I've also read that it is just digital, so leave it off.

IIRC, the DPReviews of Canon DSLR's over the years have indicated that HTP does what it is supposed to do ... change the sensor's RAW response curve to increase RAW dynamic range at the cost of some noise (ISO 100 vs ISO 200).

I wrote to Canon tech support, and their reply was that HTP changed the sensor response curve for RAW, not just JPEG.

What is "best practice" for using RawDigger with MagicLantern's Dual-ISO?

Forums:

Do you have one or more Canon DSLR's and installed the MagicLantern (ML) firmware? If so, have you used the Dual-ISO capability that merges different ISO's together for greater dynamic range? (my impression is there is a cost of some resolution for this).

I've taken series of images with a progression of shutter speeds, like ML's enhanced Auto-Bracket with 12 steps of 0.5 EV to start from under-exposed, and going past over-exposed. Then I've looked at the files with RawDigger.
