HowTo? Add Ratings or EXIF info or Stars or Keywords to RAW file?

Forums:

Is it possible to add Ratings to RAW files directly while using RawDigger? I'd like to add the equivalent of Stars rating, or some other for of EXIF or Keywords.

If this isn't currently possible, perhaps it could be a "Feature Request"? Thanks.

There is a work-around now ... view the same file in Bridge, and do the Star rating after leaving the file in RD. My experience is that when RD is viewing the file, it is locked to other applications (which is good).

DNG's containing floating point data

Forums:

Hi,

For a special application I am creating DNG's with IEEE 32 bit float data instead of (normal) integer data.

Rawdigger does not know how to handle these, unfortunately.

The content of my files are OK.
They are read by Photoshop as well as Lightroom.
Also using 'dng_validate.exe' shows no errors.

Thanks for the wonderful program and greetings,
Auke Nauta

P.S.
I can make a floating point DNG available if you like (dropbox)...

Nikon WB preconditioning

Forums:

Hi,

I would like to undo (as fas as possible) the WB preconditioning of my Nikon D600 raw files.
However, I do not know where to find the red and blue scale factors used for digital mutiplication (I am using Libraw to read the files).

Would you know where to find, or how to derive, these values?

And what about black compensation?
Are the NEF raw values black corrected? And if so, by which black value(s)?

I appreciate any help on the subjects!

Greetings,
Auke Nauta

Comparing Rawdigger to Nikon Capture NX2

Forums:

I am studying an image I made with a Nikon D600, comparing histograms and under/overexposure between Rawdigger and Nikon Capture NX2.

Rawdigger shows no overexposure and 9.2% underexposure in the blue channel. NX2 shows no underexposure but significant overexposure in the red channel. Can you help me to understand this? I was using auto white balance in the camera.

Dynamic Range measurements

Forums:

Hello, I realize tests of cameras and I want to determine the dynamics of the sensor with RawDigger. Here's how I do it:
I shoot a gray and uniform scene. For the first shot I let the camera automatically expose for a VR Exposure = 0. Next i surexpose the target by EV=+7. Next i shoot i dark with the lenscap at 1/1600 s f/16 to have a black and quick exposure

So i have
- 1 shot at EV=0
- 1 shot at EV=+7
- 1 shot darknoise (1/1600 s with lenscap)

I try to mesure the Sony RX10

Can RD be used to select best bracketed exposure.

Forums:

I have RD Exposure and use it to determine which of my bracketed exposures are the best in terms of ETTR. I have a Sigma DP2M and shoot at ISO 100. I believe It's telling me which of the 3 exposures is closest ETTR. I'm now considering using higher ISOs for B&W as I've noticed the camera works well at ISO 800 for B&W. After doing some tests it appears that I can't use RD for determining the best bracket at ISO 800 (or any higher than 100).
